oOo Tere's Review oOo

3 Words. Oh. Holy. Wow.

I was blown away with this book. It has all the elements that I love in a story. Office Romance? Check. Smart ass Heroine? Check. Dark and Brooding Hero, Triple Check. Witty Banters? Check. Revenge at its Finest? Check. Sexy as Fuck Love Scenes, OMFG, hells yeah CHECK. Scenes that will make your heart ache, oh yesss, Check!

The gist of the story is about Alexa Holland who thought all her life that her father was perfect, until she found out that her father is not as perfect as he seemed. She found out that he was the reason for a family to fall apart, and for one young boy whose childhood was ruined because of his father's weakness.

That boy was now a man and none other than the successful and sexier than sin Caine Carraway. Alexa met Caine face to face during a magazine photo shoot in which she was the PA to the Photographer and Caine will be featured. Instantly she felt a connection and perhaps guilt on what her father had done to Caine's family so she just blurted out who she was to Caine and Caine just cancelled the whole shoot and got Alexa fired from her job.

I really liked Alexa a lot. She is just the type of heroine who is a smart ass and could care less about her appearance. She's sexy and she knows it and she's confident about herself. She also stood for herself so instead of backing down when she got fired she went to Caine and asked him to call her boss to get her job back, or at least remove her from being blacklisted so she could find another job.

and Caine. oh Caine. i have a new favorite Book Boyfriend. Oh boy. He is arrogant and oozing with sexiness. He was so pissed at Alexa but he still knew that Alexa doesn't deserved to get fired so when he called her previous employer and he doesn't want to re-hire Alexa, Caine offered Alexa to be his Personal Assistant instead.

And so the fun begins. Oh my. Caine was just a pain in the ass with all his outrageous requests to Alexa, Totally the boss from hell - in a kind of like the Devil Wears Prada way. But Alexa won't back down. Ugh. the Sexual Tension between them is Electrifying! Their office banters alone felt like i was reading a foreplay on each page! I LOVE IT!

You can totally feel the attraction between them but both of them are fighting it. They just get insanely jealous with all the other people that got close with each other, may it be another client or best friend or blind dates.  Until they finally gave in and started a secret no strings attached relationship.

The push/pull, hot/cold character of Caine can be a little bit confusing and tiring at times, but as the story progressed you will just realized why it is needed in the story. There was just a sadness that i felt on how his childhood turned out and how he had to survive. He was having a hard time expressing how he feels. I almost gave up on him just like Alexa, but he redeemed himself in the end and i fell in love with him even more.

And Effie. oh, this story will never be the same without her. She was just the bomb! i love her too!!

I am a certified Samantha Young fanatic, but i must say that among the On Dublin Street Series, On Dublin Street is the only one that really captured my taste and the others might be good stories too but all i can say is Samantha did a pretty darn good job with Hero. It is a MUST READ.

Favorite Lines: (LOTSS) :)

“As I said, it comes with a price.” His grin was wicked and I suddenly felt a little breathless. “I’m a hard man to please. And I’m also a very busy man. You’ll do what I want when I want and I won’t always be nice about it. In fact, considering what your surname is, you can pretty much guarantee I won’t be nice about it.”
--

"Tomorrow you'll receive your employment contracts. Once you sign those I'm your boss." When I didn't answer he said, "That means you act the way I want you to act. That means you shelve your attitude and the twenty questions."
"Should I shelve those next to 'personality'?"

--

"You cannot kill your boss on the first day, you cannot kill your boss on the first day, you cannot kill your boss period …"
--

“She wanted me to tell you that she made your favorite—banana cream pie.” I grinned with faux sweet innocence. “You’re to stop by tonight for a piece.”

The unhappiness radiating from him would have quelled any normal person into silence—or at least wiped the stupid teasing smile off their face. But I never claimed to be normal. Nope, I was enjoying his obvious discomfort, because it meant I had found something real out about him, and I was eager to learn more about the charming Mrs. Flanagan.

“Get out of my office, Alexa.”
--

“Alexa,” he warned.

“You know you can call me Lexie.”

Caine actually growled.

“Okay,” I hurried to explain, “I had them write ‘Phoebe, I look forward to seeing you tonight, Caine.’ And”—I almost closed my eyes in preparation for his reaction—“I may have put a little kiss at the end.”

The air around him seemed to swell with annoyance. “What?”

“An X. You know … a kiss …” I trailed off, wishing I was back in Hawaii with a mojito.

Quite abruptly Caine put his hands on the armrests of my chair and shoved it against the desk as he bent down to level his face with mine. He was so close I could actually see the chocolate coloring in his eyes that stopped them from being entirely black, and his mouth … his mouth was but an inch from mine.

I held my breath from the shock of his sudden movement and his closeness.

“First of all,” he said through clenched teeth, his hard stare holding mine in its grip, “do I look like a man who would ever put a kiss at the end of a message?”
--

 “I want your tongue back.”

“And you’ll get it.” He pulled away only to tug his shirt off impatiently.

--
“Do you know how sexy you are?”

“I do now,” I replied softly.

--

Seattle? With Caine? In a hotel?
I’d either kill him or screw him again.
“Fuck.”
“Alexa, the speakerphone is on,” Caine’s amused voice sounded from my desk.

Oh, balls.

--
“Ungentlemanliness?” he teased. “I dare you to say that five times fast.”

--
“I presume you realize he wants to fuck you.”

I wrinkled  my nose in distaste at his crudeness. “You really took my word for it on the whole not-pretending-to-be-a-gentleman thing, huh?”

--

“Say it.” He almost slid all the way out of me. “Say you’re mine.”

“I’m yours, I’m yours,” I agreed, barely cognizant of what I was agreeing to.

--
“You are so arrogant.”

“Pot, meet Kettle.”

--
“You know, some people are good at something and they don’t realize how good they are at it. It’s called being humble and modest.”

He shook his head, grinning as he pushed me onto my back. “I’m neither of those things. It sounds boring.”

--
Without a word he started stalking down the street in the opposite direction my grandparents had taken. I started after him, my steps slower.

And then quite abruptly Caine whipped around and marched back toward me. Features etched with determination, he yanked me roughly to him and crushed his mouth down over mine. I made a noise of surprise in the back of my throat before my instincts took over. I couldn’t help sinking into his kiss.

When he finally let me go we were both breathing hard. Caine smoothed his thumb over my cheek, his eyes still dark with passion and anger.

“I could give a fuck who saw that.”

--
“I love you,” I choked out against his warm chest.

In answer, Caine gently pulled me away, just far enough so he could look into my face. I was tearstained, swollen-faced, and exhausted. I was a mess. But he stared at me as if I were the only person in the room, and as if I was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.
His voice was gruff as he confessed, “I love you too.”
