EXCERPT:

Shaking off the memory of yesterday, I grabbed my purse and opened the door to my apartment with every intention of jumping in a cab to the address Joe had given me.
However, a man blocked my way.
He stood in my doorway, his fist raised as if to knock.
Shocked, I stared up at his familiar face.
Why the hell was Henry Lexington standing in my doorway?
His vibrant blue eyes met mine and for a moment, neither of us said a word. Silence stretched thinly between us, and I suddenly realized I was holding my breath.
Lexington quite abruptly broke the silence. “Miss Ray?”
“Yes, what—”
“We need to talk.” He pushed past me and walked into my apartment without an invitation.
For a moment, I stood there with my mouth open, asking myself if that had just happened. Were people really that rude?
I stared after him, watching him disappear out of my hall and into my sitting room.
All my papers on Carraway were in there!
“Hey!” I called, shutting the door and hurrying after him. “What do you think you’re doing?”
Lexington stood in the middle of my small sitting room, his back, thankfully, to my desk. His expression was sullen, cool, and calculating. This was not the charming, hedonistic millionaire I’d read about. “I could ask you the same thing, Miss Ray.”
“Excuse me?” Cold sweat prickled under my arms. Did he know? How did he know? If he didn’t know, why the hell else would he be here? Why was he here and not Carraway?
I waited anxiously for Lexington to stop boring through my face with his hard eyes. “I assume you know who I am.”
“You’re Henry Lexington.”
“And you, Miss Ray,” he turned and strode over to my desk, fingering my papers, “are going to let a certain story die.”
My belly flipped unpleasantly.
Goddammit. “What?” I said.
Lexington raised an unimpressed eyebrow. “Imelda Worthington.”
Fuck.
“That blank expression isn’t fooling anyone, Miss Ray. I know she said a few unfortunate things to Richard Peters, your boss, and I know you’ve been calling her ever since.”
Despite my guilt, despite knowing I was in the wrong here, this privileged asshole had burst into my apartment to intimidate me. Like hell! “You do, do you?”
His eyes narrowed. “Imelda informed me of what’s been going on and asked me to kindly give you a message.” He prowled toward me and I suddenly felt real fear. I didn’t know this man and he was here to shut me up. How far would he go? I steeled myself, not wanting him to see my fear. If my expression gave me away, however, I didn’t know; all I did know was that Henry Lexington stopped a good foot from me. It still wasn’t enough. He stood at over six feet, his broad shoulders fitted into a perfectly tailored three-piece suit. He had big, masculine hands, one hidden in his pocket, the other resting on his flat stomach over a suit button. Henry Lexington had a swimmer’s build—sleek but powerful—and I could only guess at the strength beneath his suit. I struggled not to feel overwhelmed by his large, magnetic presence, as much as I struggled not to feel fear.
“You’ll leave her alone,” he demanded.
Guessing there was no point in being coy considering he’d seen my desk, I asked, “Why are you here instead of Carraway?”
Lexington flashed me a wolfish grin that didn’t reach his eyes. “Because I’m the nice one. Caine scares Imelda. He scares most people. Not you, though.” He took another step toward me, seeming to be cataloguing every little nuance of my face. “And if you’re not careful, that lack of fear could ruin you, Miss Ray.”

ARC Review: THE BAD ONES by STYLO FANTOME

***This book is given as an ARC (Advanced Reader's Copy) in exchange for an honest review.

CON - The town's olden boy, the star quarterback. Everybody loves him, and he seems perfect...any mother's wish for their daughters. IF THEY ONLY KNEW THE TRUTH, they'd run away screaming.

You see, Constantine Masters is one half of the BAD ONES. One half of a soul so dark, but so pure...of their love for each other.  Con has waited for Dulcie, to grow, and wake up from her slumber...coz you see,
DULCIE has been a BAD ONE all along, she just hasn't realized it.
TOGETHER, they painted the town RED, with their victim's blood.

The BAD ONES has thrown me for a loop. I've always loved Stylo for her ability to shock me, and test my limits as a reader, when I first stumbled over her KANE Series. And then I met the MERCERNARIES Lily, Marc and Law, both men equaly rough in their own way, and Lily giving all she's got.

Then came Con and Dulcie, who if I'm honest, scared me a bit. It was like I was watching an episode of Criminal Minds, but a love story. Not a tragic one, because well they did have a happy ending. But mind you, I was batting for them and cringing at them, because they really are crazy scary.

Not for the faint hearted, but this book, like all of Stylo Fantome's (I've read them all) will not disappoint because it will give you something to think about, and maybe make you look over your shoulder for a few days.

BLN (MA) RATING: 4 BLOODY STARS

The Bad Ones are coming, watch out!

The Bad Ones

Love isn't always bright and shiny.

Sometimes, it's dirty and wrong, buried six feet deep in a secret place where only wild things dare to go. Hidden behind a big black curtain that covers things no one should ever see.

Sometimes it happens between two people who should never be allowed to come together. One who is a match, and the other who just happens to be gasoline.

One strike is all it takes to burn the whole world down, and that's exactly what they plan on doing.

Even if it kills them.

Warning: this book contains graphic sex, extremely brutal violence, bad language, and people repeatedly and knowingly breaking the law.

CON IS COMING...SOON.

NEW RELEASE: THE GIRL'S GOT SECRETS BY LINDA KAGE

Here’s the same old “girl posing as a boy” story but with a rock-n-roll twist.

Remy Curran dreams of one day being in a band, except the group she wants to join refuses to hire a girl drummer. So, she auditions as a guy...and makes the cut.

Becoming “Sticks,” a member of Non-Castrato, isn’t quite what she dreamed it would be, though. She spends most of her time keeping up the subterfuge and learning how to walk, talk, act, and drink like a man.

But what’s even harder to deal with is acting oblivious when the band’s heartthrob lead singer, Asher Hart, treats her like one of the guys and not a woman. She never imagined he’d be so much more than a pretty face with a nice voice. But he’s better than perfect. He’s perfect for her.

When love and lies combine, Remy must keep up the act or lose everything. But who knew lying to reach one dream could prevent you from attaining an even bigger dream?

November 9 (Colleen Hover) -MA's Review

Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring novelist, the day of her scheduled cross-country move. Their untimely attraction leads them to spend Fallon’s last day in L.A. together, and her eventful life becomes the creative inspiration Ben has always sought for his novel. Over time and amidst the various relationships and tribulations of their own separate lives, they continue to meet on the same date every year. Until one day Fallon becomes unsure if Ben has been telling her the truth or fabricating a perfect reality for the sake of the ultimate plot twist.

MA's Review:

"I am translucent, aquatic. Drifting, aimless. She is an anchor, sinking in my sea."

FIVE PLOT TWIST STARS!!!

I did not expect to love this book. FOR ONE, I didn't think CoHo could top Ugly Love for me, and TWO, because from the plot, it had the Nicholas Spark feel to it (which is really not a bad thing, it's just not my cup of tea). But how CoHo proved me WRONG. I started reading at 11PM last night and finished by 2AM, in between ranting with Co-admin Tere about the scenes and lines, that made me wanna throw my tablet in a fit of anger and betrayal, to the ones that made me want to bowl in ugly ugly tears or just SIGH and SWOON over Ben. I did not skip a page, and had to read one chapter twice, just so I could feel the effing heartbreak again.

Lines:

“I don’t want to be your first, Fallon. I want to be your last.”

“I don’t expect that, Fallon. But I do pray for it. Every night, down on my knees, to any God who will listen.”

You deserve more than a secondhand I love you.”
One of the worst fucking moments, and I can still feel the wounds your tears left in my chest every time I breathe.”

“Do you think Stephen King was actually murdered by a clown in real life?” I ask him. “Did Shakespeare really down a vial of poison? Of course not, Ben. It’s called fiction for a reason. You make the shit up.”

Colleen Hoover: November 9

Beloved #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover returns with an unforgettable love story between a writer and his unexpected muse.

Until one day Fallon becomes unsure if Ben has been telling her the truth or fabricating a perfect reality for the sake of the ultimate plot twist.

oOo

Tere's Review.

SIGH. I. Can't. Even.

I don't know how to start my review. Every time I try to start typing words, I just want to crawl back to my bed and read the book all over again. and again. and then some more.

To be honest, when I started reading this novel I wasn't simply "sold" by its plot. But I love Colleen Hoover so I'll definitely bite. I am the type of reader who loves certain "formulas" and won't simply go outside the box. (Hint: OFFICE ROMANCE aficionado)

And so I started reading in a normal phase, taking my time and enjoying the words. Hmm.. I was actually starting to like how the story leads. Sometimes there were scenes that made me smile a little because I was thinking -- HA! that's definitely a COHO trademark dialogue!

As the gist says, Fallon and Ben met in an uneventful chance on a fair November 9, where Fallon was supposed to leave Los Angeles the next day to pursue her passion for acting in New York. Their instant attraction lead to their uncanny agreement of meeting only on November 9 for the next 5 consecutive years with no communication whatsoever but they will meet and talk on that date only. Sounds crazy, right? It is indeed.

And then I started to get serious with my reading. Digesting and feeling all the words written by the queen. By the 2nd November 9th I was completely sold. By the 3rd November 9th I fell in love. And by time I reached the 4th November 9th I was effin' heartbroken. It was as if someone took my heart and I watched as it get crushed into tiny bits and pieces. And how I wanted to throw and burn the book away but like an alcoholic that needed booze I kept on drinking on the words - completely in sync with the emotions that stirred all my senses until I felt the numbness of the high. Oh Colleen, how could you do this to me. You completely ruined me. It's going to be a while before I could recover from this high. And one thing for sure you  definitely changed my perspective with the ALPHA males. I felt like a new born reader. I would never look at heroes the same way again. Ever. Because you are absolutely correct. Real Men do cry.

5 stars.

She points at my stomach. "You have abs?"
I laughed and looked at my abdomen. She said it like it was a question, so I give her the obvious answer."Um... yeah? I guess."
She covers her mouth with my shirt, hiding her grin. "Wow," she says, her words muffled by my shirt. "I like them."

I pull her up the stairs, towards my room.

Away from everyone in the world I don't want to see or speak to right now.

She's the only one I wanted with me today, and here she is. Just for me. Because she missed me.

If she's not careful, I might fall in love with her.

Tonight.

We lie quietly for so long. I begin to wonder if he's fallen asleep. But after a few minutes, his grip around me grows desperate. He tilts his face until it's completely buried in my shirt, and his shoulders begin to shake as he starts to cry.

I'm not prepared for this. I have no idea how to deal with this. It feels like my heart is literally breaking. Cracking right down the middle, bleeding out into my chest, filling my lungs with blood, making it impossible to breathe.
